Band Friends is a program for student musicians to come together and learn how to play as a band. The best part of learning an instrument is getting to play with other musicians and learning how to connect and communicate through music!

We have band and performance opportunities for kids ages 8-12, teens, and adults at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels.

RSM offers several types of bands, and we can either place you in a band based on your age, skill level, and goals, or you can bring your own band. The number of bands and the style of bands change throughout the year, but you can check out our general categories below.

Pricing varies depending on session length and frequency, which is typically 90-120 minutes weekly or every other week. The schedule is determined during band placement.

We offer both semester-based bands that run in Fall and Spring, and drop-in bands who work together as a continuous project.

Semester bands meet weekly or every other week ending with a showcase at a venue in Austin! At least one year of instrument experience required & must be enrolled in private lessons (this will be when students will learn the songs assigned to them) unless otherwise arranged.

Drop-In Band training sessions are flexible, and you can with an instructor on a weekly, every other week, monthly, or as needed basis. Stage rentals are offered for those who would like rehearsal time without an instructor.

When a musician takes the step from playing music solo to playing with others, the possibilities are endless. Internal timing and rhythm immediately kick in which allows the brain to let go and the body to let the music flow through. Every instrument has a specific purpose and place in a band or ensemble and the dynamic changes depending on the instrumentation, genre, and group.

Learning to really LISTEN and tune into how the instruments fit with each other is something that just can’t be done without that in person full band experience. This program is perfect for students to take their playing to the next level and to explore as many ways to play and create music as possible.
